MAKING CHAMPLIN OUR PLACE TO LIVE

Meet Lorraine Coan

WHY SHE'S RUNNING

One of the main reasons Lorraine is interested in continuing to serving as ward 4 council member is to give back to the City of Champlin for all the great experiences she has had with her family living in Champlin for 30 plus years. She wants to make sure that the Champlin City Council continues to make decisions that benefit the residents of Champlin and keep Champlin a great place to live.

HER BACKGROUND

Lorraine is a life long resident of Minnesota. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Political Science and Social Welfare. She recently retired from a 30 year career as a Hennepin County Probation Officer. Lorraine has been married to her high school sweet heart for 47 years! They have raised 4 of their own children in Champlin, and took in a few extra youth over the years. They have been blessed with 16 grandchildren (3 of whom are children of a young man Lorraine and her husband took in, who now call them grandpa and grandma). They also have two great granddaughters! Their family loves spending time at Champlin’s various parks. After the park, there's a walk to get ice cream, which we eat while watching the ducks on the pond. It’s a tradition. It is these little memories that are now traditions.

Lorraine would like to see them continued for all residents in Champlin by having safe parks, streets, schools and neighborhoods. This means gathering together to watch a sporting event in one of the many parks in Champlin or just to enjoy the playgrounds or maybe the splash pad on a hot summer day. Maybe it's family and friends getting together at Mississippi Crossing for summer concerts, or enjoying “Night to Unite“ where whole neighborhoods gather together for an evening of fellowship. This is why we say “Champlin is Our Place to Live”. Lorraine is running to make sure this atmosphere continues in Champlin for generations to come. Champlin is a wonderful city to live in, raise your family in and a place to have your friends, children, grandchildren and even your great grandchildren come to visit!

Lorraine is dedicated to community service – she will show up and work diligently. She currently serves at her church and has for the past 25 years. She also served as a volunteer in her children’s schools until they all graduated. Lorraine has also served on the Champlin Environment Resource
Commission, where she was active in cleaning up the parks, helping with the city wide recycling event and more. She has been privileged to serve as head election judge for the city of Champlin and has marched in the Father Hennepin parade for many years.

Now, she felt it was time to serve the City of Champlin on another level, which is why she applied for the council position in Ward 4 when there was a vacancy in spring of 2026. It was a competitive process with other residents of ward 4 also stepping forward to interview for the position. Getting the appointment to serve on the city council this April, was so rewarding. Lorraine filed as a candidate with the hope of finishing out the last 2 years of her predecessor’s 4 year term.

"I can truly say Champlin has been my place to live for the past

33 years and I have loved every minute of it."
